Inside Afro Sunsets: Music, Travel & Our Stay At Jollyboys

ree

Afro Sunsets is a twice-yearly house music festival that brings together music lovers, adventurers, and friends for a weekend getaway like no other. Held in the winter and summer, it’s the perfect escape for anyone wanting to break out of their routine, dance, and make memories with new and old friends.

What Made This Year Extra Special?

Usually taking place in Lusaka, the festival was held in Livingstone, Zambia’s tourist capital, where the liveliness of the city was felt throughout the weekend. Between festival nights, we explored the town with walks, cafe visits and the occasional spontaneous detours.

Our Afro Sunsets Experience.

Upon arrival, we explored the Victoria Falls, a true natural wonder, before settling into our home base at Jollyboys Backpackers. The sun then dipped below the horizon and the festival came alive.

The setup was thoughtfully designed with two stages catering to fans of house, amapiano, and hip-hop. The music energized the crowd, setting the perfect vibe for the weekend. Though it wasn’t just about music, activities like beer pong kept groups lively, and sparked new friendships. Fireside chats offered a cozy space to warm up and connect deeper, while a paint and sip session gave everyone a fun way to ease into the party spirit.

Let’s not forget the stunning location on the banks of the Zambezi River with breathtaking sunsets that made the whole experience feel truly magical.

Why Afro Sunsets Stands Out.

The team behind Afro Sunsets clearly know how to run a festival. The event was well-organized, with minimal litter and smooth transitions between sets. The music kept the energy high all night long, and the atmosphere was welcoming to newcomers and seasoned festival goers alike.

Our Stay at Jollyboys Backpackers.

Jollyboys was our cozy retreat for two nights. The unique rooms and spacious lounging areas created the perfect environment to decompress after the festival nights. Their kitchen served delicious & generously portioned meals, exactly what we needed after full days of activity.

The bathrooms were spotless, with reliable hot water that made the stay even more comfortable. What really brought it all together was the mix of guests; families, solo travelers, and friend groups, plus the friendly staff, all adding to the laid back, social environment.

Our Final Thoughts.
